    David Pagett

    Ice Maker

Bayview is very proud to be the home of the “Little Rock”. Its invention 30 years ago was by our Ice Maker, David Padgett. David saw a need to have a lighter version of the granite stone so that children as young as 6 years old could learn the game. David developed a plastic composite rock that would simulate a real rock but was half the weight. Since then, Little Rocks have been used all across Canada, in parts of the U.S., and in Europe.

    Julie Hastings

    Curling Coordinator

I started curling at the age of 9 using the Little Rocks at Bayview.  When I was 13, I had the privilege of being the flag bearer for the Canadian Junior Women's team at the World Championships being hosted in Markham.  From then on, I was hooked!

As a junior, my greatest accomplishment was winning the TCA Junior Bonspiel.  With that win, my team earned a trip to Switzerland and we had the opportunity to wear the maple leaf in an international junior bonspiel.  It was the start of a 25 year journey with my team.  I am the skip of Team Hastings and together, we have qualified for 3 Junior Provincial Championships, 5 Grand Slam Tour events, 7 Ontario Provincial Championships, and 1 Canadian Scotties Championship.

My latest accomplishment is becoming a curling coach.  Although I started teaching curling when I was 16, I decided to recertify under the new NCCP guidelines. Today, I help run the Youth Curling programs at Bayview and I am always looking for ways to inspire young people to start curling and to compete.
